Lynn is a wonderful trainer
with that special touch horses really respect. She halter broke my two Connemara/TB
cross babies this year and did a superb job. Max and Jonto are extremely easy to
handle now (they were wild little Indians at age 6 and 7 weeks due to me having a
baby the same week they were born!) and a real pleasure to work with. I am looking
forward to Lynn working with a draft cross of ours as well as starting my
Connemara/TB broodmare. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting a horse
started or needing a difficult horse transformed into a working partner. I signed a
contract for training the babies and Lynn more than fulfilled that, making training trips
to the barn many times until she and I were satisfied the babies were well on their way!
Please feel free to contact me for a referral for this wonderful trainer.

My horse Coal
had some behavioral problems that made me look for a trainer, and when I found Lynn
it was not without reservation. I had talked to other trainers before only to discover that
they were only interested in dealing with show horses, or warmbloods-and the fact is I
own a draft horse. But Lynn was not even phased, and gladly said she would come
take a look at him. She immediately developed a rapport with him and was in a few
short minutes getting him to do things I had tried doing for months. After clearly
explaining to me the lessons we both had to master, she made sure I was able to
repeat what she was doing and gave me a full lesson plan before leaving. I was
shocked when a few days later she actually emailed me to see how both of us were
doing, and took the time to respond to me when I had questions of my own.
Much later in an a unforeseen turn of events, Coal needed surgery on his hooves, and
for him to convalesce properly, we had to remodel his stall and part of our barn. I
boarded him at her stable during that time, and I can attest she treated him with the
very best of care. Not only was he kept physically well, but mentally she gave him
attention as if he were one of her own, and went above and beyond the call of duty.
The specific behavioral problems she addressed that I had sought her assistance in
overcoming were;
1. Throwing up his head to refuse being bridled
2. refusal lead or inversely, running off with the lead
3. When frustrated, kicking at me with his hind end or aggressive posturing
4. Refusal to stand for any length of time

Now Coal is a 16 hand 2000 lb Percheron. But after Lynn used Johns Lyon's methods
with positive rewards and repetition, Coal can now not only be lead with a loose lead,
but turn both directions, back and even ground tie. Something I never thought possible
from him. He has never attempted to kick again, and will drop his head to accept the
bit. Each of the steps in the lessons to teach him this were expertly explained to me
by Lynn, and she made sure I was able to accomplish them. I will say this type of
training is not for those who do not want to be a part of the horses learning. And Lynn
is a hands on trainer who will show you and expect you to take an active role in your
horses progress. After all, for me, Coal would not be much better if he only did these
things for Lynn. But he will now do them for anybody. Lynn is someone who is in the
horse business because she truly loves horses, whether they be big, small, show
animals, or the backyard pet. I can say with full confidence that Lynn has been an
awesome trainer for Coal as well as me, and has changed forever my relationship with
my horse.

Fella's Testimonial

When it was time to start our three-year-old Missouri Foxtrotter, Fella, my husband
and I decided to look for a John Lyons certified trainer to send him to. We have
attended the Equine Affair in Ohio for several years and we really like John’s
approach to horses. We were surprised and pleased to find a trainer close to our
home. We met Lynn and liked her friendly, outgoing manner and her love of horses.
Lynn came to evaluate Fella and talked to us about what we wanted from the training.
We have a round pen and a riding ring so she offered to come to our farm for the
training, so that we could learn with our horse. She scheduled her time so that one of
us would be there to learn from her training. Lynn drew up a contract, telling us exactly
what to expect our horse to be able to do at the end of the training period. Before she
started, she specified what we needed to do to make the round pen safe for Fella.
Lynn was always focused on the well being of our horse. Fella was probably not the
easiest horse to start. He had never been separated from our other horses and for a
while he resisted every step of the training. The most impressive thing about Lynn in
working with Fella was her patience. She was amazing. She never showed any
temptation to lose her temper no matter how he tested her. She just stuck to the
program and backed up when he needed to. When we felt discouraged at his
stubbornness, she encouraged us to have faith in our horse. Lynn showed us how to
do what she was doing and explained the reasons for it every step of the way. My
husband and I learned so much from her that we couldn’t get reading books or
watching at the Equine Affair. She taught us that patience and taking the time for
small steps of progress really does work. Watching Lynn was like following the pages
of John’s manual. She was planned, methodical, careful, and took whatever time Fella
needed to learn a lesson. At the end of the training, not only could I ride Fella and do
everything that we had agreed upon in the contract, but also he was a much nicer and
more respectful horse. I think Lynn is such a good trainer because in addition to being
well studied, knowledgeable, tireless and enthusiastic, she loves horses and she loves
working with them and it shows in everything she does. I would recommend her to
anyone who wants their horse started or needs help to solve a problem with their
horse. We can’t wait for our foal to be born so she can help us get him/her started
right from the start.
